This historic 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Trans-Am car (Race #81) is a part of the Golden Restoration family and the source of our passion restoring racecars. With a rich history of competing in the legendary SCCA Trans-Am series during the golden era, preserving the car's history while maintaining its safety and functionality is a challenging balance.

Panel Repair and Fabrication

In racing small knocks are to be expected, to preserve the history, the original panels must be preserved as much as possible. To repair minor front end damage we hammered the front quarter out by hand, just like they would have back in the day. The original plastic grille is incredibly fragile and hard to find, so we painstakingly repaired it by hand, preferring an imperfect, yet original example to an aftermarket low quality clone.

Proactive Measurements and Imaging

To ensure that we are always able to repair this car in the future, much of which is completely custom or unique, we have proactively taken detailed measurements of every panel on the car using digital tools. We also have created sub-millimeter accurate 3D scans of the whole car and key components, ensuring that even in the worst case scenario, we are able to return the car to its original condition. We encourage anyone with a high likelihood of damage to their car to have these scans done.
